U.X.B. - are a post punk new wave/power pop band from Cannock, formed in 1978. Influenced by such bands as The Jam and The Clash aswell as Ska/Dub Reggae, the band’s sound was perhaps most similar to The Ruts. UXB’s live set is a juxtaposition of nihilistic punk-inspired rockers and reggae masterpieces.

Their double “A” sided single “Crazy Today” c/w “Mr Fixit” on the Crazy Plane record label received extensive airplay on local radio as well as being aired by Radio 1’s John Peel, Peter Powell and Mike Read. (see UXB Homepage)

The ZIPS - formed in Glasgow in 1978. Their reputation as an energetic live act meant they were soon playing in many of Scotland’s Art Schools and Universities. By the end of ’78 they had enough original material to record their “EP” with songs “I’m In Love”, “Over And Over”, “Take Me Down”, and “Don’t Be Pushed Around”. Their EP won favour across many radio stations and in particular John Peel. Their first run of 500 copies soon sold out. The EP was followed up by the single “Tenement Toons” which they put out on their own label. Meanwhile the band had won the Scottish heats of a band competition organised by “Vitavox” and appeared in the finals at The Venue, in London. “Island Records” showed a real interest in the band, however as is the case with many bands it didn’t go any further.

The Zips played many support slots with, amongst others Cockney Rejects as well as playing at many of the CND/Anti-Nuke rallies. (see www.thezips.co.uk)

The NEGATIVES – the punk train moves itself into Bradford station where The NEGATIVES appear, Bradford’s first – and best- punk band. Everyone is guaranteed a great night out whenever The “Negs” appear in town – no real politics, no sloganeering, no posturing, no ego; just a bloody good laugh, because they know they won’t change the world, but can enjoy themselves as the world changes around them. Enjoyed massive support wherever they travelled and played alongside the likes of Aswad, Stiff Little Fingers amongst many…… (see www.thenegatives.org.uk)

KNIFE EDGE – formed in Leeds in 1976, the strength of the band was it’s live performances. Knife Edge started during the dawn of punk in the UK and played a huge amount of gigs. As well as headlining their own gigs they also gained support slots with the likes of Wreckless Eric, 999, The Only Ones, Penetration etc……

The style of the band was to always play loud and to be exciting. The singer Mark Sweeney always stripped to the waist (Iggy Pop styly), and used his 100ft microphone lead to sing everywhere with the venue (and sometimes outside!).

All bands are featured on “Bored Teenagers Vol.2”
