HO Scale Proto-Freelance Model Railroad

This website showcases an HO scale model railroad of an imaginary Union Transportation, Carloadings & Steamship Company (UTC).  The UTC portrays a fictitious  railroad holding company that acquires and operates branch lines of other railroads. In addition, this imaginary UTC provides a variety of rail logistics services: transloading, private industrial rail car switching, track maintenance services, rail car repair, locomotive leasing, and rail car storage.  All operations are now branded under the UTC Lines logo and brand. 

UTC began in the early late 1920s as a cartage and jitney bus service serving routes in  New Jersey.  By 1935 UTC had sold its truck and bus operations and focused upon salvaging, or purchasing and operating less profitable railroad companies and branch lines.

UTC's mission is to grow shareholder value by selectively investing along in freight railroad properties throughout North America. The UTC's management team forms strong partnerships with the customers, communities and employees where its railroads are situated. The goal of UTC is to provide customers a first class transportation solution that is focused upon safety, customer service, greater productivity, improved service reliability, added value and targeted capital investment.

Also  a new subsidiary has been created to provide management, operation and maintenance services under contract to commuter and shuttle railroad passenger operations. 

UTC is focused on working with new and existing customers to increase freight revenue while also evaluating railroad acquisitions throughout North America.  Under aggressive and efficient management, the UTC is determined in becoming one of the more successful railroads to emerge in recent railroad history.  UTC is a small railroad operation with a long reach!!
