Acanthosis Nigricans
Velvety brown lesion usually located in axilla/neck
Assn: stomach adenocarcinoma, MEN II b, insulin resistance (DM, obesity)
Acne Rosacea
Looks like acne but begins in middle age
Assn: Rhinophyma (red bulbous nose, see image abov
Tx: topical Metronidazole, Tetracycline PO
Famous Sufferers: J.P. Morgan
(Self-conscious about his rosacea, J. P. Morgan hated being photographed)
Severe Cystic Acne
Tx: Isotretinoin PO (vitamin A analogue, teratogenic, pregnancy test before commencing treatment then monthly)
Acne Vulgaris
Tx: Tretinoin, Benzoyl Peroxide, topical antibiotic
Actinic Keratosis
Develops on sun-exposed areas
Precancerous lesion, can progress to squamous cell CA
Prophylaxis: sunscreen
Tx: topical 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU), Tretinoin (emollient cream), liquid N2
Alopecia Areata
Autoimmune
Tx: localized Steroid injection (hair loss can recur after successful treatment)
