2019 FOM Conference

Following 6 successful Finance, Organizations and Markets (FOM) conferences, we are having our 7th research workshop at the University of Southern California.   The conference will begin with lunch on Thursday, Dec 12th and end on Friday around 3:30.   Please submit your papers by August 31, 2019.     The FOM is a research group to advance interdisciplinary research in finance and the organization of firms and markets, including financial, industrial and labor markets.  Broad topics will include internal firm organization (theory of the firm), mergers and acquisitions, financing policy and industrial organization of markets, and linkages between firms' financial, organizational, and operating strategies. Both theoretical and empirical work will be encouraged. Scholars will include individuals who study internal firm organization, corporate strategy, corporate finance and industrial organization of markets.

The conference will take place at the Marshall School of Business and the hotel will be the USC Hotel, which is directly across the street.   December typically has sunny weather in the upper 60s or 70s Fahrenheit and cool evenings, a perfect respite and venue.    There are no conference fees and meals will be covered by the conference.  The conference will also fund 2 nights lodging for one presenter for each paper, and for discussants and session chairs. Conference participants are responsible for their own travel to Los Angeles.  We have arranged discounted hotel rates for all other participants.

This conference follows our first six successful conferences.  This year's keynote speaker will be Vojislav Maksimovic from the University of Maryland.  The conference will include a broad range of topics including innovation, entrepreneurship, theory of the firm (mergers and restructuring) and private equity.  This year's conference will be organized by Jerry Hoberg and Oguzhan Ozbas with assistance from Terry Lichvar.  Our research committee includes Heitor Almeida (Illinois), Murillo Campello (Cornell), Tony Cookson (Colorado), Espen Eckbo (Dartmouth), Laurent Fresard (SFI University of Lugano), Jerry Hoberg (USC), Naveen Khanna (Michigan State), Evgeny Lyandres (Boston University), David Matsa (Northwestern), Kevin Murphy (USC), Oguzhan Ozbas (USC), Gordon Phillips (Dartmouth), NR Prabhala (Johns Hopkins), Chad Syverson (Chicago) and Shawn Thomas (Pittsburgh).  We are also happy to announce that our past keynote speakers included Oliver Hart (2014 keynote speaker) and Bengt Holmström (2015 keynote speaker), who won the 2016 Nobel Prize in economics.
