UFO-New Brunswick, Canada

This site is mostly about a major UFO sighting that took place on September 2, 2007, at Grand Lake, in the province of New Brunswick, on the east coast of Canada. While thousands of UFOs are reported every year this one incident was unusual since it involved a cigar-shaped vehicle that seen by three different groups of people, underwater and above water as it was flying out of the lake.
Grand Lake is approximately 40 km east of Fredericton and is popular for recreation with locals, with several beaches and cottages on its shores. It is also adjacent to the second largest military base in Canada: CFB Gagetown covers an area over 1,100 sq. km in southwestern New Brunswick.
The following is part of a letter that was published in the Fredericton Daily Gleaner, Sept. 7, 2007, p. B 7. Note the corrections in square brackets: [].
We were at Douglas Harbour, Grand Lake, near Princess Park, last Sunday where seven of us spent most of the afternoon and evening.
After a late dinner, we set up a fire on the beach and enjoyed watching many small displays of fireworks around the lake. After the fireworks, at around 10:50 p.m., we were walking on the beach with a tripod and a powerful pair of binoculars to reach an area behind the trees where we could see the moon.
Before we got there, I spotted a bright white light moving quite rapidly, west to east [correction: south to north] (right to left from our location) and, for a moment, I thought it was a fast car on a highway.
It was moving very fast and quite smoothly, not like anything we would see on water.
It made no noise whatsoever. All we heard was the noise of the waves gently hitting the beach.
The object was quite far, perhaps a mile or a mile and half away and moving rapidly.
At one point, three lights lit up ahead of the first light we saw, perhaps for three seconds or so.
This would indicate that the first light was at the rear of the object.
The object disappeared behind the trees to the west [northeast]. We tried to catch up to see where it was going but we lost it.
We had spent most of the afternoon and evening on the beach watching all kinds of power boats and sail boats.
I have considerable experience watching airplanes and estimate the speed of this craft to be well over 100 mph - perhaps 200 mph or more.
It had to be hovering over the water, as there were some pretty good waves and nothing would go this fast on the surface of the water. It made no sound whatsoever.
I e-mailed a friend who has a cottage across the lake near Whites Cove - four miles across the water from us - and asked if he had seen anything unusual that evening.
Later, he contacted me to tell me that some of his relatives, a few doors away, had witnessed something totally unbelievable.
When they went out to watch the fireworks around 10:15 p.m., about 100 feet in front of their cottage (itself about 75 feet from the shore), just below the surface of the water, an object about 80 to 90 feet in length was clearly visible.
It was cigar-shaped and the bottom of the craft was brightly lit. They kept an eye on the object while watching the fireworks for about 30 minutes and then went inside. By that time it was about 10:45 p.m.
About seven minutes later we saw what, we believe, was the same object fly close to the water in front of us.
I would like to hear from other people who may have witnessed this incident.

The letter generated several replies but none were as interesting as a chance encounter with one of the Grand Lake former residents, in late 2011. As is commonly the case with people who witnessed UFO sightings, very few (about 10% according to Fredericton resident Stanton Friedman) are willing to discuss their experience publicly. As far back as the 1947 Roswell UFO incident in New Mexico, MSM (Main Stream Media) has been instructed by government agencies to either ignore or at the very least ridicule UFO reports. For a long time this kind of disinformation campaign worked successfully in stigmatizing anything that was not the powers-that-shouldn't-be's official version of events. Thanks to the internet and the alternative media, this sorry state of affairs is improving but there are many people who still don't want to be associated with any kind of "conspiracy theory."
At any rate, a third group of witnesses were contacted in late 2011. The following map shows, with green arrows, where they were located.
Further investigation led to a witness who casually explained that it was probably "one of their experimental machines", in reference to the CFB Gagetown military base which happens to be adjacent to Grand Lake. For more see our blog: http://ufo-nb.blogspot.ca
