Mission Statement
To provide the UC San Diego community with resourceful consultations regarding operations of student organizations, and student involvement while fostering a welcoming environment.
What Is the SILC Program?
The Student Involvement Leadership Consultant (SILC) program is a peer educator program coordinated by the Center for Student Involvement (CSI) at UCSD. Each year 15 SILCs are selected and trained to answer general questions about student organizations, and promote leadership and involvement opportunities. SILCs staff the CSI Front Desk as the first point of contact for student organization principal members, and refer student leaders to various university staff, as needed. SILCs also conduct outreach at campus-wide events, support all CSI programs, and host events to promote student organization to the UCSD student population to help students get involved!
SILC Team Goals 2025-2026
Strengthen Team Cohesion
Being present and engaged during meetings, communicating clearly both on and off shift, and showing support for one another by attending Out-of-Desk Opportunities when possible. Success will be measured through consistent attendance, effective communication that supports success at the desk, and the smooth coordination of events within our control.
Enhance Communication with Clients
Maintain professional and timely communication with student orgs and campus partners by sending follow-up emails, confirming logistics, and addressing questions promptly. Success will be measured through timely email response rates, and fewer communication related issues during events.
Improve Documentation Efficiency
Make sure all files are organized in the correct folders and consolidated in one shared space for easy reference. Update appropriate documents during each shift, including front desk tracking, task tracking, and drop-in logs. Ensure all SILC forms, event materials, and templates are current and labeled clearly. Encourage team consistency by checking that files are easy to locate, up to date, and formatted in a uniform way.
Increase Front Desk Consistency
Ensure all SILCs provide a dependable and professional front desk experience by maintaining accurate desk logs, clear shift communication, and consistent service standards. This includes using positive and approachable language when speaking with students, actively listening to their needs, and ensuring every interaction reflects CSI’s values.
Enhance Student Experience
Ensure every student who visits CSI receives welcoming, accurate, and helpful support. This includes actively listening, offering resources that fit their needs, and following through to me to make sure their questions are answered or directed to the right place.
Build a Creative Team
Foster creativity and innovation within the SILC team by encouraging idea sharing, collaboration, and experimentation in marketing, outreach, and programming. Create space for SILCs to take initiative and feel confident bringing new ideas forward, whether that’s improving existing procedures/practices or imagining new ways to engage students
Support Active Learning and Professional Growth
Encourage SILCs to grow by providing opportunities to learn new skills, take on responsibilities that challenge them, and reflect on their development. This includes creating space during meetings to review procedures, ask questions, and share our best practices.
Celebrate and Maintain Team Morale
Foster a positive, motivating environment where every SILC feels appreciated and valued. This includes recognizing individual and team accomplishments, encouraging peer-to-peer appreciation, and incorporating moments of fun and connection into our work.
