Welcome to Biostatistics 110A, here is a list of helpful resources throughout the course:
1. Where to find STATA?
STATA has a discounted student version which is worth considering, but you could also find it in the following places:
- SPH computer lab: CHS A1-241, check it's availability beyond our lab time.
- Biostat computer lab: CHS A1-228, passcode could be requested from Roxy.
- Online STATA: http://www.library.ucla.edu/clicc/software. I tested it on my Mac, it worked on the Opera browser.
2. Homework policy and Office Hour?
Each homework problem worth 10 pts, and you find 'earned points'/'total points' on your returned ones.
Office hour: 1:00-3:00pm on Monday at A1-228.
3. Need help on STATA?
Solution 1: Email Qian, click here.
Solution 2: Refer to http://www.ats.ucla.edu/stat/stata/.
Solution 3: Check the help documents (help function) on STATA.
4. Book list in Statistics/Biostatistics.
Probability: Theory and Examples, 3rd/4th Edition Richard Durrett. Good reading in probability.
The Elements of Statistical Learning, Hastie and Tibshirani. Bible for machine learning from a statistical perspective.
Machine learning a probabilistic perspective, Kevin Murphy. Text for CS260 (Machine Learning Algorithm) at UCLA.
