I am a high school assistant principal in Northville, so after long days of dealing with crazy, hormonal teenagers, reading is my therapy. My favorite genre is Mystery / Thrillers, especially series by Louise Penny and Tana French. I live in Novi with my hubby, two kids, and dog. We love to travel, try new restaurants, and when I'm not reading, I'm often listening to music. My dream is to retire somewhere tropical, run a margarita stand that has beautiful, shirtless men serving margaritas to passersby, and read with my ass in the sand. Happy Reading!
My love of reading began at a very early age. Every night when my dad would tuck me in, he read me a book. I always loved this time with my dad, who happens to be one of my favorite people on earth. This love of reading is strange, as neither of my parents are big readers, and hard fought. I had a very hard time learning how to read, but once I got the hang of it, I could not be stopped! My first reading adventure was the series Flowers in the Attic. It was so scandalous that I thought I was really getting away with something. In my college years, my love of reading waned a bit, but I found it again when I had more time after grad school. Now you can always find at least three books on my nightstand.
Just a few things about me: I have worked in PR for 17 years, but I hate to write. I have a huge yellow lab named Aonghus (Gus for short), who is my pride and joy. I am a reality TV addict and I would love to bake for a living.
I'm Christina.
I like to travel.
I like pictures.
I like blight.
I like pictures of blight.
I am the group's token non-wordy commoner among a sea of brilliant literary talent. Don't feel sorry for me though... what my pen lacks, my mouth more than makes up for.
Oh... and I ♥ my John Adams VERY MUCH!!
My dream is to quit my job and spend my days reading books, watching old movies, going to baseball games and traveling around the world with my amazing husband. Until then, I make do with Barbara Stanwyck posters throughout my house, season tickets to the Tigers and a fabulous book club. And I take full advantage of the generous number of vacation days I get each year.
I’m a big fan of living a balanced life — half adventure, half cozy. When I’m not traveling to new places or watching my favorite sports teams play, you can usually find me in the kitchen experimenting with new recipes or outside in my garden, soaking up the sun. I’m also a huge reader, always with a book in hand, whether I’m relaxing after a long day or on a weekend getaway. For me, it’s all about enjoying the simple things: good food, exciting sports games, a beautiful garden, and getting lost in a good story.
I own this book club. Bwa-ha-ha. My previous book club had some wonderful gals in it, but there were aspects of the "book club" part of it that really disappointed me. Sometimes you just have to do it yourself to get it done right. Result: the most fabulous group of book-loving women in SE Michigan. You all make me think harder and smile harder, even when you detest the book I've chosen.
Also, I write book reviews, albeit short ones here.
I’m a librarian and have worked in public libraries for my entire adult life - I love the varied nature of it and being around people. I’m a reluctant writer (expository & trivia only), collector, pop-culture & film buff, and a lover of animals and nature. I was born in MI, but grew up in San Francisco and moved back to MI just in time for a bad adolescence. I love memoirs, and graphic novels and hate dystopian anything.
A community arts organizer, I’ve spent the better part of the last dozen years in back alleys, prairies, and mobile “offices” usually armed with a laptop, leatherman, and gantt chart. Work has ranged from prescribed burns to arts journalism to event & film production (and one very odd turn as a tour manager); now I serve as a volunteer coordinator at the local Library. We didn’t have a library where I grew up which meant I reread the same books A LOT (there were thoughts that I might be Laura Ingalls Wilder reincarnated), rewatched the same scifi a lot (I can pretty much quote the entire Back To the Future series word for word), and did the same routines on the trampoline. These days I’m overwhelmed by the sheer awesomeness of libraries, though I still enjoy rereading my favorite fiction.
Hi, I'm Elizabeth! I grew up an avid reader and often "played library" with my mom and sister in my younger years. It was only fitting that I should grow up to be a librarian at the public library in Ann Arbor, where I love selecting the Adult Fiction and Audiobook collections, planning fun events, and helping folks from the community use our awesome services. When I'm not library-ing, I love reading (of course!), distance running, cycling, cooking, watching Detroit and U of M sports (mainly football!) and traveling. My happiest times are spent "up north" in the summer enjoying a long bike ride, a dip in Lake Michigan and then sipping on a cool cider at one of my favorite spots on Leelanau or Old Mission peninsula. Cheers, and happy reading!
I'm Vanessa. When I was six I wrote a poem about how much I loved our local library and ended up winning a school competition. I still love our library, and now my kids do too.
I'm that lady who reads at a bar. I also actually really like to read cook books from cover to cover (not that I have enough time or the audience to cook that much). I love getting suggestions for new books. Classics, poetry, science fiction, short stories- I'm game for anything that provides me with a new perspective on the world.
I am excited to be part of this book club. I was in another book club once upon a time where nobody read the books - . I am a psychotherapist and I write songs. I live in Brighton with my husband, 3 dogs, 4 goats, and many chickens.
I am a writer, editor, former newspaper reporter, and math puzzle aficionado. I grew up in Michigan, then left for 10 years, only to realize this is where I wanted to be. In my family, I am legendary for having hidden from the camera throughout my childhood, resulting in a lot of photos of me as a fuzzy blur in terry-cloth shirts (hey, it was the '70s). Which makes it more than a little ironic that I married a photographer. I am the mother to a beautiful little girl whose hair is like spun copper.
