This year’s 2nd Border Encuentro at the U.S./Mexico border is a direct response to the call for solidarity with the border communities to resist militarization, support refugees and migrants, and to denounce the US military, political and economic policies in Latin America that create the conditions for forced displacement and violence. There is no wall or border that can deter the solidarity of people!

The Social Justice Council of UUCT endorses the conference although we may not all agree with every group presenting a workshop or presentation. The Unitarian Universalist Association has long been a critic of the training provided to some military and non-military personnel of governments with poor human rights records. This training has taken place at several military installations in the United States, including Ft. Benning in Georgia and Ft. Huachuca in Arizona. UUs in general also oppose the militarization of the U.S./Mexican border. UUCT is the fiscal agent for No More Deaths and we support its life-saving work in the desert and its investigations of human rights abuses by the U.S. Border Patrol.

Here is the weekend schedule of events. A link describing the workshops and events is also included. To register for the conference link on here. The conference is free but donations are appreciated.
