"We first met Jessica when she worked for another tutoring company 3 years ago. She was matched with my daughter because she was known to be patient and could find ways to connect with students who were more quiet. My daughter, then in 7th grade, went from being behind and failing in math to being caught up and getting a good grade in math. The best part was that my daughter liked Jessica and was therefore willing to work for her and learn. After a few years without Jessica, we found the need again for a math tutor, but Jessica had left the tutoring company. How pleased we were to find that she was starting her own tutoring service and we happily signed up for weekly sessions. Not only is Jessica effective on teaching math skills, but she helps my daughter track all her homework assignments in other classes, and helps tutor her in history (Jessica minored in history). She purchased her own copy of our math book so that she could do lesson plans. Jessica is a big reason why my daughter is continuing to learn and enjoy math. She motivates her in ways I can't do myself, and she developed a reward system (this still works even in high school!) to earn books for working hard on homework. Jessica also helps my younger daughter in math occasionally, as needed. What most impresses me about Jessica is her desire to continually improve her own skills. She earned her MBA so that she could effectively run her tutoring business, she is working towards a national certification in math, and she volunteers to do finance for a private local elementary school. All this while teaching in an urban middle school with few resources and keeping in shape to run half marathons!"
"Jessica has been a very effective tutor for our 6th grader. She is organized and communicates well as a liaison between student-teacher & parents. She's able to explain math concepts and provides a greater grasp on overall comprehension of math. Jessica has a gift for teaching. We have seen the improvement she's made in tutoring and I believe she's taken the fear out of testing with concrete steps. Middle school is the time to put extra effort on the foundation for learning and I would strongly recommend Jessica to anyone considering a tutor."
Quote from student:
"Jessica makes math fun and math isn't normally a fun subject. She makes jokes and arm movements to go along with the math equations. It's funny and we laugh a lot, but it helps me remember things like how to calculate the circumference. She knows who she's working with."
