How To Become A Merit Badge Counselor
To Qualify:
Be at least 18 years old
Be proficient in the merit badge subject by vocation or avocation
Be able to work with Scout age youth
Be registered with the Scouting America (as a Merit badge Counselor)
How To Register:
Merit Badge Counselor registration is independent from any other Scouting America registered position you may hold. It requires a separate Adult Application, even if you are already registered for a different position. Email Susan Miller at Susan.Miller2@scouting.org with questions.
Registration as a Merit Badge Counselor requires of the following items in California:
BSA Adult Application – Completed and signed (see below).
Merit Badge Counselor Information form (with list of badges)
Proof of current Youth Protection Training (taken within last 20 months)
Completion of Merit Badge Counselor training (classroom or online)
Completion of California AB-506 Volunteer Mandated Reporter training, and submittal of a Live Scan fingerprints for a Background Check.
