The Groom
Jeff is a front desk staff person at a Georgetown hotel and volunteers with various community gardening projects. His training includes a B.A in International Economics at Hampshire College and is pursuing another degree in mechanical engineering at UDC. He spends time putting together his “super computer" using Linux systems and monitors the satellite waves that come into the digital TV. Jeff enjoys reading Vietnamese novels, fishing, gardening and camping.
Here’s Jeff’s “how we met” story: Through Trinh’s friend, ES, they had their first date. They eventually fell in love when Trinh called him “vịt”, describing his stench after a workout with a mallard duck. In retaliation, Jeff calls her, “rùa”, for her stubbornness and for sticking her neck out to take risks, enjoying adventures, enduring trials, dreams, and aspirations. Jeff shares a deep love of family and community involvement with her. He is excited to begin his life with Trinh "rùa".
The Bride
Trinh is an Environmental Protection Specialist working for the District of Columbia Department of the Environment (DDOE). Her primary work involves coordinating watershed-scale programs to reduce non-point source pollution. Additionally, she is promoting environmental education initiatives and outdoor learning spaces in District schools. Trinh, native to the Mekong Delta’s Bến Tre Province, Vietnam, holds a B.S in Biology and Environmental Science from Gettysburg College, PA. She worked at the USDA’s Natural Resource Conservation Service for three years and at the Anacostia Watershed Society for one year before joining DDOE. These positions concentrate on the development of environmental education policy and regional watershed education programming and funding.
Trinh first met Jeff watching the Super Bowl XXXIX at Lily’s Bar in Georgetown, DC. Two years later, she fell in love with him, as he is the most caring and uniquely mysterious guy she’s met. Trinh is looking forward to spending the rest of her life with Jeff and building a happy family.
The Proposal
Picture this - Trinh and Jeff sitting on the steps of the backyard porch watching the trains go by. Jeff asks, “Marry me?” Trinh says, “Of course, vit”. There were no rings, no kisses. She leans on his shoulder as they watch the sun sets and the trains go by. It was one of the happiest moments in our lives. The end.
