(1) Transport of materials between blood and cells
Figure 3 Transverse section of a leaf
Photosynthesis occurs during the day when light is present. When light is present, stoma opens. Carbon dioxide gas diffuses into the leaf through the stoma and oxygen gas diffuses out of the leaf through the stoma.
(3) Gaseous Exchange at the alveoli in the lungs
Figure 2 Exchange of substances between blood and the surrounding cells.
-Useful substances such as nutrients and oxygen diffuse from blood into cells.
- Waste substances such as carbon dioxide diffuse from the cells into the blood.
(2) Gaseous exchange during photosynthesis
Figure 4 Exchange of substances between the alveoli and the blood.
Oxygen diffuses from the air sacs (alveoli) in the lungs to the blood. Carbon dioxide diffuses from the deoxygenated blood in the capillaries into the air sacs (alveoli) in the lungs.
