THE ADVENTURERS PROGRAM

Adventurers are 14 to 17 years old.  The First Officer and Second Officer, as high profile youth leaders, oversee the Adventurers program.  Patrol Leaders will be selected to head each patrol.

Typically, after the common opening with kindergarten through 12th grade boys, the Adventurers meet as a group to focus on their own activities. These activities can include working on Trail Badges, although it is more common at this age level for Trailmen to work on badges outside of meetings with mentors. During meetings, Adventurers Trailmen will often focus on more complicated planning for quarterly high-adventure trips.

Adventurers Trailmen have six required trail badges targeted at the needs and abilities of older boys. Focus moves more toward servant leadership, teamwork, faith-building activities, and experiences in the community.

ADVENTURER PROGRAM

The Adventurer program starts with earning the Journey Rank, then each trailman progresses through subsequent ranks (Ascent & Horizon) by earning required and elective badges, participating in troop activities and community service, and organizing service projects.  The ultimate award for Adventurers is the FREEDOM AWARD.

What are the Adventurer Required Trail Badges

Trail Life Uniform

Adventurer Trailmen wear one of the three uniform options shown below. Uniform options are available to order at the Trail Life USA Store.

Any pants in good condition or hats (Trail Life USA preferred) may be worn with the Adventurer Trail or Travel Shirt at this time.  Non-Trail Life USA hats should be free of logos.  Closed-toed shoes (preferably boots or tennis type shoes) are required for all Trail Life USA activities including normal meetings.

Trailman's Handbook for Navigators and Adventurers

Instruction, Information and Inspiration!

The core of the program for both groups is detailed in The Trailman's Handbook.  It contains the joining requirements, Rank Advancements for Navigators, Awards for Adventurers and all Trail Badge Requirements for the required Trail Badges for each level. Written in a style sure to capture the Trailmans interest, it is filled with useful information, instruction, and inspiration.  The handbook is part of the uniform.

The Trail Life USA Troop Standard is awarded to Trailman who earn the Navigator Able Trailman Rank or the Adventurer Journey Award. It has been designed and manufactured to hold all Trail Life USA advancements for Navigators and Adventurers.

Other standards may be used for non-advancement type medallions like those purchased from national or state parks.  Trail Life USA advancements should not be placed on other standards.    Find out more about the history of the Troop Standard here

Service Stars

Adventurer Trailmen must earn one service star (gold) for each year since joining as an Adventurer for their Horizon Award. Each service star requires 20 hours of service.  Service stars are earned for completing the required hours for Rank/Award or additional hours after the required number for Rank/Award.   Service Stars are affixed to the Trailman's Troop Standard.
