Tempe Parents for the Gifted

Tempe Parents for the Gifted is a nonprofit organization of parents, caregivers and community members working together to better meet the unique needs of our gifted students in Tempe, Arizona.

Tempe Parents for the Gifted (TPG), a community advocacy group, was formed in 1979 to support efforts of gifted teachers who provide the special services and challenging learning environments for gifted children in Tempe.

Membership

Who can become a TPG member? Parents, grandparents, neighbors, teachers, administrators and other community members who recognize that children identified as ‘gifted’ have special educational and social and emotional needs. For example, they deserve to be challenged by focusing on depth and complexity (rather than more repetitive tasks based on things they learned a year or more before.)

Meetings and Activities

Several events for families of gifted students are planned throughout the school year. Board meetings are held monthly.

Purpose of TPG

  • To strive to improve and increase education and learning opportunities of the gifted and talented students in Tempe and the Tempe Elementary School District (TD3) by raising awareness of, and providing information and resources available to parents and educators.

  • To observe, report upon, and assist where possible and appropriate the programs for gifted and talented students in TD3.

  • To champion legislation for the improvement or increased financing of gifted and talented student programs in Arizona public schools, and the continued support of specialized professional preparation for educators of gifted students.

TPG is a chapter of the Arizona Association of Gifted and Talented(AAGT), which are both tax-exempt as described in Sec 501(c)(3) of IRS code. TPG’s tax ID is 86-0328905. Donations are tax deductible.
