The land first used for this cemetery was deeded by Mrs. Sarah L. Baird a daughter of William and Sally Townsend. Her mother was Sally foster. She was a granddaughter of Nathan and Dorcas Townsend original settlers in the town of Floyd.
The property was deeded on June 27, 1890 for an amount of $100. The land that was known as the "old cemetery" was reserved by her. Additional pieces of property were obtained in 1891, 1900, and 1905.
Information provided at an unknown date by a local resident indicate that burials in the "old cemetery" probably started around 1814.
Many of the old burials no longer have markers or monuments but include some from the Revolution and War of 1812 survivors.
