In March 2022, I joined back Blackmagic Design. Have developed a surface normals based relighting tool which was deployed in DaVinci Resolve Studio 18.5, announced at NAB Show 2023. I went a bit overboard and compiled a list of mostly YouTube videos demonstrating use cases, tutorials and some critiques of the Relight FX.

Earlier, I worked at University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) under the supervision of Professor Terrance E. Boult first as a Senior Professional Research Assistant and then as a Research Associate in Vision And Security Technology (VAST) lab. During my stay at VAST lab, I worked on incremental learning, open-world learning, and self-supervised learning applied to few-shot, class incremental and open-world learning. The project I worked on was supported by DARPA's SAIL-ON program.

Before joining VAST lab,  I worked as a Computer Vision Engineer at Blackmagic Design, USA on computer vision and machine learning applications for video processing. Specifically, I worked on image and video restoration problems such as natural image denoising, image/video deblurring, and super-resolution. I developed a Scene Cut Detection approach which was deployed in DaVinci Resolve Studio 17 and also helped deploying another feature named Smart Reframe.

I received my Ph.D. in computer science and engineering from University of Nevada, Reno, USA in 2017. Previously, I earned an M.S. in computer science and engineering from the same university in 2014. My masters and PhD work was advised by Professor George Bebis and the research funding was supported by NASA and NSF. I earned my  M.Sc. in computer science from The University of York, UK in 2011 where I was advised by Professor Richard C. Wilson.  I received my B.S. in computer engineering degree from National University of Computer & Emerging Sciences(NUCES-FAST), Lahore, Pakistan in 2008.  After finishing my Bachelors, I started an M.S. in computer engineering at School of Science & Engineering, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Pakistan; however, left it incomplete to pursue my M.Sc. at University of York, UK.

In the summer of 2016, I did an internship at Honda Research Institute, USA. Before joining Blackmagic Design in early 2018, I worked as a Software Engineer in an Augmented Reality startup for eight months. During my graduate studies at University of Nevada, I worked as a research and teaching assistant.
