Cleaning up Nativity Prep Academy

• April 27th arrive between 8:30 and 9:00!
• Lunch will be provided and we should be done around noon.
• Projects will be light- painting, some cleaning, etc.

Girls on the Run 5K

• May 5th
• Crown Point Park- Mission Bay
• Variety of volunteer options- parking lot, set up, water station, clean up, etc
  • All in the morning, however timing is different for each volunteer role

Vet Camp

• Dates: Saturday, May 4; Sunday, May 5; Saturday, September 21; Sunday, October 6 and Sunday, November 3
  • Shift Times: 8:15 a.m.–1 p.m.
• Location: Helen Woodward Animal Center
• Position is a helper to teachers with campers here for the program. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, walk around, able to lift, pull, push up to 15lbs. Experience with children helpful.

Vacation Bible School (summer camp)

SD Rescue Mission

• San Diego Rescue Mission is a non-profit homeless shelter and recovery center serving thousands of homeless, hungry, and poor women, men, and children in San Diego since 1955. Some of their programs provided are emergency shelters for women and children, a men’s residential rehabilitation program, a women and children’s residential program, a preschool, a recuperative care unit, transitional housing, work therapy, and more.
• Ages 16+ can volunteer with the San Diego Rescue Mission in a number of ways, including Christmas meal outreach, at the thrift store or warehouse, at the transitional housing or recuperative care units, tutoring, and more.

San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum

• Must be at least 15 years old.
• Volunteers work in almost every area of the museum. Some volunteers help build our exhibits and assist in public workshops, while others assist with general operations or serve as an information ambassador.

Bookstore Volunteer

• Where: Friends Book Store at the SD Central Library
• 2-4 hours weekly or monthly
• Openings for 11:00-3:00 or later
• Jobs: Greet people as the they enter the book room and orient them to the collection. Shelving books that are misplaced or stocking areas that need to be replenished. Rady Children’s Hospital In-Kind Program

• Create joy for a child in the hospital anytime throughout the year. Donate a new toy, book or video that will cheer up a child who isn’t able to go out and play. Top choices include matchbox cars and new release movies. Stuffed animals and used toys are not accepted.

Feeding San Diego

• According to Feeding San Diego, 1 in 8 San Diegans face hunger and food insecurity. A meaningful, memorable way to show you care is to volunteer with Feeding San Diego. Each Saturday, volunteers ages 6 and older get hands-on with food that is distributed to needy families throughout the county. You’ll spend 2 hours sorting produce or dry goods. The hard work creates a great talking point about not taking the simple things for granted and being aware that people all around us are in need.

Rotary Youth Exchange

• For ages 15-19
• GREAT opportunity to develop leadership skills, build lasting relationships with people around the world, and get much better at a foreign language
• Long term exchanges: full academic year, attend local schools and live with multiple families
• Short term: from several days to 3 months, take place when school is not in session
• Opportunity to be a host family! Provide room and board and involve your student in family, community, and cultural activities.

Bake birthday cakes for at-risk youth and foster children

• Do you like to bake? We are looking for volunteer bakers in San Diego County who can bake, decorate, and deliver. Sign up to bake in your home as often as you like, it’s up to you.
• Cake4Kids helps foster kids and at-risk youth feel special at least one day a year. We deliver free birthday cakes, cupcakes, cookies and bars to foster children and at-risk youth who wouldn't otherwise have a birthday celebration. All volunteers bake in their homes and then deliver the magnificent birthday cakes to youth signed up with our organization.
• All cake deliveries are made Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm.

Volunteer at Birch Aquarium

• If you’re interested in marine biology or just need a long-term volunteer opportunity…
• Guide visitors through exhibits, answer questions, and work behind the scenes

RYLA

• RYLA is held at Idyllwild Pines Camp in Idyllwild, California. It is April 20th-22nd!
• RYLA encourages leadership in youth by recognizing and rewarding deserving 11th grade students who are chosen to attend RYLA as an "award" for their past and present leadership and service activities.
• These select young people attend an all-expense-paid camp where they are inspired by a diverse group of exceptional speakers, make life-long friends through fellowship activities, and discuss the ethical and social issues of today. These activities are conducted in an atmosphere of trust and respect. The result is that these students return to their schools and communities motivated to take on additional leadership roles and to find additional ways to serve.
• Rotary Clubs in District 5340 look each year for high school juniors who are outstanding school and/or community leaders with a strong service background to apply for RYLA.
