進め方: 講義前の週の木曜日に講義資料（2000字程度の論文要約）を配布します。それを事前に読んできてください。講義中は「ラジオ講座」のかたちで講師がDJとなり、最新の論文のエッセンスを解説。講師のカメラはオフ。聴講者のマイクとカメラはオフ。チャットで質問も受け付けます。解説終了後、質問をまとめ、聴講者のマイクのみをオンにして、議論に入ります。

概要: 東南アジア経済論 IIと題して、主に産業発展論を展開し、そこに都市の比較制度分析を織り込み、地域研究・経済理論・統計的推測の融合を目指します。具体的には、都市の発展、特に非農業セクターの発展を理解するため、途上国・新興国と呼ばれる国・地域の組織・企業・産業・雇用・貿易・生産網・都市化のあり方を総合的かつミクロレベルから研究するための手法を学ぶ予定です。これは経済発展と貧困のメカニズムを把握するための大きな訓練となるでしょう。東・東南アジアを中心としつつアフリカ大陸、ラテンアメリカも含めて新興国経済についての研究成果を多数紹介することによって、最新の研究成果を自力で理解するための基礎知識を習得します。

講義にあたって: 市場取引を支える制度、規制、あるいは地理的条件が人口分布と産業立地の地理的集中を通じて、一国の経済発展と貧困をどれだけ左右するものかを調べることは、発展途上国･地域の経済に関する理論的な関心、発展途上国・地域についての実践的な関心を遙かに超えた重要な問題です。また過去の制度は現在の制度に対して慣性を持つため、過去構築された制度の影響がどこまで持続的かを理解することは現在の市場取引を支える源流を追究し、かつ市場を支える制度の改善の方向性を見出すことにつながるでしょう。さらに、都市化や経済活動の地理的集積は一国における経済活動の不均一な分布を意味するので、都市化や経済集積に伴い、経済発展と関係の深い人的資本、産業組織、金融仲介のそれぞれが一国内でどのように分布し、経済発展と貧困を規定しているのかを理解することは広く社会科学の基礎的知識となりつつあります。このため、こうした基本的知識は研究者のみならず、政策担当者としても、また政策、学術、市民の知的関心をつなぐ専門家としても極めて重要となるでしょう。

目標: 地域研究・経済理論・統計的推測の融合を目指します。議論に参加し、最新の研究成果のリサーチデザインを吸収しつつ、査読者になったつもりで論文のエッセンスをまとめ、各自の研究論文に活用すること。講義後半の5回程度で、1回3人程度、各自5分程度の報告を行っていただきます。具体的な文献の選択については聴講者の関心を考慮して決めます。各自、担当する論文の「ライナーノーツ」を書いてください。
