Professor Ando has received more than ten competitive research grants from government, university, and philanthropic funding bodies, including the Australian Research Council and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. His research has also been recognised through institutional awards, a journal best-paper award, and election as a Fellow of the Spatial Econometrics Association.

This project develops econometric methods that allow macroeconomic and financial models to better account for low-probability extreme events, including global financial crises and pandemics. It addresses fundamental challenges in model estimation, counterfactual analysis, and big-data applications. The expected outcomes include new insights into how extreme risks are transmitted through global economic and financial systems. The research is intended to support policymakers and practitioners responsible for maintaining economic and financial stability during periods of extreme stress.
