www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1Sedmq1BucK5nj-OO-jslKUyNcC8&usp=sharing - zerg90 primary map of fire stations in Tokyo - 1/1/2024
Tokyo Fire Service - overview - there are approximately 220 smaller "branch" fire stations plus 90 larger "fire stations" - each "branch" fire station seems to have 2 red pumpers plus 1 white ambulance - the larger "fire stations" each seem to have 1 ambulance, 1 (battalion chief) command van, 1 aerial ladder, plus 2 pumpers - many of the branch stations and fire stations seem to be built into highrise buildings - [ FDNY terminology would be - 3 areas + 10 divisions + 90 battalion HQs (which are colocated with fire stations - 12/31/2023) + 220 stations - Tokyo FD terminology is - 3 areas + 10 districts + 90 fire stations + 220 branch stations - 7/29/2020] - (those are approx numbers iirc - especially for fire stations - 12/31/2023)
Tokyo FD has 2 dispatch centers - 1 downtown at HQ - and 1 at Tama (the far west area). Each Tokyo pumper and ladder and rescue has a crew of 4. Ambulances have crews of 3.
In addition there are approximately 500 volunteer fire stations. Each is typically 2 floors with 1 bay. All contain 1 small pumper or a hand drawn pump - plus portables pumps - rescue tools - and portable radios. The volunteer stations are managed by Tokyo FD in the east area. In the west area, the volunteer stations are managed by the citys.- in the east, volunteers might respond to only disasters and typhoons - in the western / mountain area - volunteers are probably first responders since the paid stations are so far apart
Tokyo paid stations are from 1/2 to 3 miles apart it seems - volunteer stations are located between the paid stations - in general - a few volunteer stations are co-located with the paid stations - some volunteer stations are adjacent to paid stations - but mostly the volunteer stations are 1/4 to 1/2 mile from the paid stations - possibly none of the volunteer stations have beds - they might just have portable cots to use in a disaster
Tokyo FD has 4 medium helos and 4 large helos - or 8 medium and 4 large. The 4 large helos have 1600 litre tanks and 2 have water cannons and 10 person gondolas - for highrise fires. There are 2 helo bases - 1 east and 1 at Tama. Tokyo also has ?12 fire boats at 6 stations.
Note - there might be 4 or 5 branch stations that have aerials or command vans - but those would be exceptions to the general scheme - 7/29/2020
See the Tokyo FD website for more accurate info. I am just giving general info here from memory.
The info above was updated July 13 2020 - and 12/31/2023
