About Me

Greetings. I am excited to continue working with the incredible students at the International School of Dakar for my fifth year. The past four have been both challenging and rewarding. Highlights have included the 9th grade Social Studies simulations at the U.S. Embassy, thoughtful, sophisticated discussions with the Africa HL students, clever TOK presentations about the history of everyday objects, and the honor of being selected as the keynote speaker for the 2016 graduation; yet, I think this year will be the best ever!

Before moving to Dakar, I taught both middle and high school in Bangkok, Thailand, and in the United States where I earned my (US) National Board Teaching Certification in History. Since the majority of my responsibilities at ISD revolve around the IB Diploma, including TOK and Extended Essay coordinator, and teaching IB History, my aim is to support the DP students as much as possible. And as a MYP teacher as well, I work with my colleagues in the Individuals and Societies department (formerly referred to as Social Studies) to help prepare the 9th graders for the IB journey ahead. I look forward to every single class; each subject lends itself to powerful, real-world learning opportunities and infinite critical thinking practices for students.

In my first career, working alongside diplomats in the fields of international relations and development, I had many opportunities to travel the world and live in various countries. Those experiences only served to solidify my passion for learning about different cultures, histories and people around the world, as well as my desire to learn from, communicate with, and teach others.

Continuing my quest for personal and professional enrichment, I enjoying being in Senegal with my family. My husband, Kevin, teaches technology here at ISD, and our son is a student in the middle school. We look forward to continuing to appreciate all that ISD, Senegal, and West Africa have to offer.
