Tim Poindexter, Artist
Through my art I get in touch with joys and hurts. I discover the internal mystery of self and a continual shifting of emotions.
Being primarily a self-taught artist, I draw on my personal experiences. As a Midwesterner from Wicher, Oklahoma I remember hearing fragmented stories about Bonnie, my great-grandmothers cousin. Bonnie and Clyde Barrow became famous in the 1930's. In many of my portraits I am portraying someone like Bonnie, an outsider:
Growing up in the country, I enjoyed working with livestock. In my mid 20's I began painting cows and other animals. All the subjects have a history I transfer into the work.
During the 2000's I lived in Dallas,Texas. My apartment sat near a part of the Caruth Creek the EPA described as one of the highest quality forest ributaries in the area. Before the riparian was sacrificed in a redevelopment plan I documented my interpretation of the land using materials I found on the site.
In memory or a material, salvage is my link connecting the past to the present.
