Research

Working papers and other publications:

My published and forthcoming papers are all cited on my vita.

I post most of my working papers on SSRN.

This page includes links to most of my published papers. It includes some "stable" links to JSTOR,so you have to have access.

Current projects:

The economic consequences of organizational law. (This project is joint with my colleague Naomi Lamoreaux; Jean-Laurent Rosenthal of Caltech; and Ron Harris of the University of Tel Aviv). Project description. This project deals primarily with France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States. Susana Martínez Rodríguez is working on similar themes for the same period in Spain, and I am a co-author on some of that research.

Population and economic development in the very long run: southwest Germany, 1558-1914. (Two linked projects, joint with Sheilagh Ogilvie of the University of Cambridge.)

Population and economic development in Germany, 1558-1914 The website at Cambridge University

Consumption and living standards in Germany, 1600-1900 The website at Cambridge University

The development of Germany's credit cooperatives, 1850-1914. If I live a very long time, this project will result in a book. See the Chapter summaries.
