This page answers a few questions that potential contributors to Time Yarns might ask. Time Yarns is not currently planning any future anthologies. However, since Time Yarns is a shared world, future Time Yarns stories, games, movies, etc. can be made elsewhere.
This page does not contain the full Shared World Guide, since the full Guide is very long and contains major plot spoilers of upcoming books. If you would like to read the full Shared World Guide, email me at erinlale@hotmail.com or contact me on social media.
FAQ:
If I publish my story / artwork / etc. through Time Yarns, can I reprint it elsewhere?
Yes. Contributors retain copyright on their works. If Time Yarns has edited and / or translated your story, you still retain copyright to the edited version and can reprint it elsewhere.
What are the highlights of Time Yarns physics and magic?
Time travel exists but not time machines; people have learned to time travel though the power of their minds. Where a "time machine" appears to exist, it is a "black box" (a machine that the operator does not understand) that essentially operates as a placebo for the operator. Inventors who attempt to build time machines never succeed; if the machine works at all, it generates timelessness instead. There are no vampires or werewolves, but it is possible to have genetically engineered creatures that look like them. "Magic" is actually a technology, but most characters won't know it, because "magic" including time travel, telepathy, etc. is the result of time travelers from the future or from alternate timelines introducing nanotechnology to the human genome in our far past, which is passed genetically through human DNA.
Who are the shared characters?
The character that shows up in almost every Time Yarn by the universe creator (me, Erin Lale) is Aunt Cassie, a mentor figure who teaches new time travelers how to use their powers. Most people assume she is really the Prophetess Cassandra. Her actual origin story is contained in the published Time Yarn, Noble Northern Spirit, in the anthology Cassandra's Time Yarns.
Any character by Erin Lale appearing in a Time Yarn can appear in anyone else's Time Yarn. Characters created by other creators (authors, artists, filmmakers, performance artists, etc.) are owned by their respective creators and require their permission to use.
