Addisons of Westmorland, UK and Ontario, Canada
Welcome to my Addisons of Westmorland and Ontario Genealogy Web Site. This site documents branches of the Addison family tree who originated in the Kings Meaburn, Morland, Crosthwaite and Beathwaitegreen/Levens areas of northwestern England in the 1500s, some of whom emigrated to Canada in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, including my own Great Grandfather, Thomas Powley Addison, who came to Canada in 1907. With this January 2019 update the tree spans 17 generations and there are now 1388 individuals documented on this site, with 445 of them being Addisons. There are also 311 other surnames of persons related to the Addisons included in this family tree.
I have also tried to delve back a bit further into the 1500s with the early Addisons of Kings Meaburn and Morland Parish thanks to some research done by a very helpful contact in the UK. From my perspective the most noteworthy person in this family tree is the Reverend Robert Addison, a missionary who founded one of the first churches of England in Canada at Newark (Niagara-on-the-Lake) in 1792. Reverend Robert ministered to the early settlers and the numerous Aboriginal communities in the area and officiated at the funeral of Sir Isaac Brock during the War of 1812. Although largely overlooked by history, he played a key role in the early days of Upper Canada.
This Family tree is based on research over the past 20 years. I have tried to surpress details of individuals living to protect their personal information. I hope you find some information of interest on this site. I would be interested in hearing from you if you do. You can send me an email or write me a letter. My address is below. Tim Addison
