IT professional. Musician at heart. Proud Kolkatan.
I’m Tilak Gupta, an Information Technology professional by profession and a lifelong student and lover of music by passion. This website is my personal space to share my musical journey, creative pursuits, cherished memories, and the people who have shaped my life.
Born in Kolkata, the City of Joy, I grew up surrounded by its extraordinary cultural richness. Music became an essential part of my life from an early age, nurtured by my father and first Guru, Bibhuti Nath Gupta, who introduced me to Indian Classical Music, Rabindra Sangeet, and the works of Kazi Nazrul Islam and Himangshu Dutta.
A Life Shaped by Music
My formal musical training began at fifteen under Acharya Chinmoy Lahiri and later Shyamal Lahiri. I went on to study Rabindra Sangeet with Subinoy Roy and Maya Sen, earning the Geetabharati degree from Gitabitan, Kolkata. Bengali Adhunik Gaan has also remained a deep and enduring passion, enriched by my training with the noted musician Biman Mukhopadhyay. After a long professional break from music, I returned in 2015 under the guidance of Kabir Suman. His mentorship profoundly changed the way I listen to and understand music, revealing it not merely as performance, but as a way of experiencing life. A cherished milestone was 22 April 2017, when I had the honour of sharing the stage with Kabir Suman at Kala Kunj Auditorium on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary celebration of his landmark album, “Tomake Chai”.
On Stage & Beyond
My musical journey has taken me to platforms including Haldia Utsav, Kasba Utsab, the West Bengal Book Fair, and other cultural events. I have also had the privilege of sharing the stage with accomplished artists such as Subhendu Maity, Sanghamitra Gupta, and Pratul Mukhopadhyay. Collaborating with Pratul Mukhopadhyay has been particularly fulfilling. His powerful stage presence and soulful renditions have deeply inspired me and left a lasting influence on my musical journey.
My performances have been broadcast on All India Radio, Doordarshan, and FM radio. In 2012, I released my first CD, “Aangey Bajichhe Banshi”, a duet with Sara Chattopadhyay, under the Ananyo Music label. Music has also brought me wonderful friendships and lasting memories. I remain especially grateful to my late friend Sujoy Sarkar, whose encouragement helped rekindle my musical journey.
Roots, Family & Gratitude
Beyond music and technology, my story is rooted in family, learning, and gratitude. My parents, Bibhuti Nath Gupta and Indira Gupta, were my earliest influences; one through music and values, the other through literature, creativity, and unwavering encouragement. My beloved wife, Gopa, remains an enduring presence in my memories. We lost her during the COVID-19 pandemic, but her warmth, kindness, and love continue to live on in our lives. Our daughter, Damayanti (Tupur), is a teacher. Through her, I continue to see the world with curiosity, hope, and renewed perspective.
Finally, my heartfelt gratitude goes to all my well-wishers, friends, colleagues, accompanists, recordists, and everyone who has supported and encouraged me throughout my musical journey. Your kindness, encouragement, and unwavering belief in me mean more than words can express.

This is my journey, shaped by technology, enriched by music, grounded in Kolkata, and carried forward with gratitude. Thank you for being here.
I hope you enjoy exploring my world.
