Thank you to the player of Casserah for compiling the following information in an efficient format.
(Assistant) rules/guidelines for altering:
- 80 characters in a tap, 500 in a look. A read should be no more than 10 words or 50 characters.
- Items cannot force onlookers to feel a certain way, whether it's admiring or afraid, etc.
- Sigils are not permitted.
- Soulstones cannot be added to other items.
- Racially-named items are usually not permitted, for instance a Kaldaran shield needs to be specifically described in such a way that it can only be Kaldaran. Words in any given racial language will have to be verified and may not be possible at some times of day/night.
- Some descriptions should specify “when worn” or similar phrasing to prevent confusion or strangeness when an item is not being worn.
- Items cannot glow or otherwise produce their own light. Shimmering and other similar words are acceptable.
- Obviously OOC references/designs are often not permitted.
- Things that discuss the source/cause of damage to an item, etc., are often not permitted in a tap or look. The damage itself is usually acceptable.
- If containers are being used as a source for material (and not the item altered), they must be empty.
- Merchants generally do not change where an item is worn or how much it can hold.
- An item's noun may be changed, but only to a similar item. A dress can become a gown or a backpack a pack, but a sword is not an axe.
- Nothing blatantly pornographic is permitted.
- Out-of-genre items are generally not allowed.
- Items cannot imply that they have mechanics they do not have. For example, stalking leathers do not actually aid their wearer when sneaking about. They can be "designed to aid stealth", but they do not actually and cannot be said to.
