Summary
Alright, time to choose a vocation. A mighty knight, an agile paladin, a fearsome sorceror or a frigid druid?
Paladin
If this is your first character ever, I suggest a Paladin. Paladins are extemely self sufficient for the majority of their game, they are able to turn great profits by hunting creatures too difficult for other vocations at an earlier level also allowing them to gather experience points quite fast. A paladin with a high distance skill can keep it's distance and decimate creatures without ever being hit, if played skillfully enough. The creatures they focus on typically drop very profitable items and cash. If you choose to be a paladin, you will have very well balanced resources (Health and Mana) although eventually your mana will be far higher than your health. A great place for a Paladin to start is the city of Venore.
Druid
Druids are my favorite class, but they are expensive. You will not make money on a druid for quite some time, and even then requires a serious investment to get to that point. This is the character you make once you've already made a successful and profitable paladin, and can begin to syphon some of that characters profit into a new character. Druid's are the only vocation with instant spells which heal other players. (Exura sio, and exura gran mas res) These spells are the most versatile and beneficial uses of mana in the game in my opinion. A late game druid is essentially an Ice mage, as their ultimate damage spell is called Eternal Winter, and does massive ice damage. Their late game rod is also an Ice rod (Glacier Rod). Druids are the only vocation that can Paraylze, cast Wild Growth and use Physical Strike (exori moe ico). Druids are versatile and very desired for team hunts. Only make a druid if you can afford to sink money into this character. A poor druid is no fun.
Knight
A good knight is a solid money maker. Unlike the other vocations, a knight does not use up resources with their main form of attacking (melee). A paladin must use arrows, a mage uses runes but the knight can simply (and cheaply) stand next to a monster and kill it. Knights have various spells they can use to increase their damage, and these become necessary later in the game to kill multiple monsters simultaneously. Knights gain health faster than any vocation while also gaining the least mana, though this is hardly an issue. If you want to play a character that feels invincible, a Knight is your choice. They have a slower start than paladins in terms of experience points, but they are near equal in profit and eventually later in the game Knights can take on mobs of creatures far too hard for paladins to conquer solo.
Sorceror
This is a good vocation to play if you hate yourself and want to sink a bunch of time and money into a character that no body wants in their team. Sorcs are the premier vocation for PVP and solo hunting becuase their attack spells have lower cooldowns than their druid counter parts, but lacking any heal spells or party support makes them virtually useless to a party since they are rather self centered. Their best spell is probably the spell that increases their parties magic level by 3...so that they can raise a druids magic level. Don't make a sorc until you have a successful druid!
