JOIN THE SEVEN VALLEYS READING COUNCIL

Are you looking for an affinity group? A group of like-minded professionals who talk about literacy in all of its forms, who grapple with the messiness of teaching and learning literacy, who are looking to learn along with a diverse group of colleagues? If you are, we have the professional organization for you!

We would like to invite you to be an active member of the Seven Valley Reading Council (SVRC). SVRC is chartered by the International Literacy Association (ILA) and is a member of the New York State Reading Association (NYSRA).

As a professional organization, SVRC is dedicated to:

• Improving the quality of reading and writing instruction at all levels;
• Disseminating knowledge of reading-related fields though Council-sponsored meetings, workshops, and newsletters;
• Developing awareness of and promoting the importance of literature and literacy;
• Working cooperatively with other educational and professional associations to promote quality education; &
• Encouraging the integration of literature and language arts across the curriculum.

Membership benefits for SVRC members include: workshops and presentations by local Pre K-12 educators, opportunities to meet and share ideas and concerns with other area educators, membership in NYSRA, NYSRA publications: The Reading Scene newsletter and the professional journal, Language and Literacy Spectrum, and reduced rates for the annual NYSRA Conference.
