It is a good idea for anyone to have some legal documents on file to address end of life issues and your wishes if you were incapacitated and not able to make decisions on your own about medical care. If you know someone who may find themselves in need of a surrogate decision maker please consider filling out the Durable Power of Attorney App or the Advanced Directive App.
Mental health advanced directive is a good thing to have on file for anyone who has mental illness who would like their wishes to be followed in the event that they are not able to make decisions for themselves during an acute episode of mental illness. Please fill out the MH Advanced Directive App to have an individual assigned to made decisions for your client when they are not able to make decisions for themselves.

Coordinated Legal Education Advice and Referral (CLEAR) - Before calling CLEAR it is important that you go to CLEAR Online and answer the questions about your issue online to determine if CLEAR can help you. CLEAR does not provide any assistance for criminal cases. You can contact CLEAR outside of King County by calling 1-888-201-1014between the hours of 9:10am and 12:45pm. Every time I've called CLEAR I have had to wait on hold for quite some time so do yourself a favor and go to CLEAR Online first. Here is an informational video about CLEAR.
Five Wishes Online - The Five Wishes is a document that does not need to be notarized nor should you need the assistance of an attorney to complete it. The Five Wishes greatly helps family and medical professionals determine the best course of action regarding your medical care in the event that you incapacitated and unable to make decisions about your medical treatment on your own. LegalZoom - With the exception of the Five Wishes Document (see below) all documents you sign regarding end of life issues should be reviewed by an attorney to ensure that it is true, accurate, and will stand up in court. Legal Zoom, although it is not free, is a much less expensiveway to handle these legal issues. Legal Zoom can assist with financial durable power of attorney, healthcare durable power of attorney, advanced directive and last will and testament. Here is an informational video about LegalZoom.
Northwest Justice Project - This is the organization that provides many types of legal assistance. For example, to receive assistance dealing with foreclosure you can call the Northwest Justice Project's Foreclosure Prevention Unit at 1-800-606-4819
Office of Public Defense - To apply to have a public defender represent you in court you must appear in person at the Office of Public Defense between the hours of 9:00am to 11:45am or 1:00pm and 3:45. You cannot schedule an appointment people are seen on a first come first serve basis. The office is located at 3000 Rockefeller Everett, WA 98201 first floor room C103. You must bring your court papers as well as documentation of all sources of income and current assets.
