The Ritz Acoustic Club
Providing, Promoting and Performing, since 7th May 1999
About Kevin...
I started playing guitar in my teens along with drums, my preferred instrument until my 30's.
I played in several function bands over the years, but since moving to the West Country in 2010, I have concentrated on solo acoustic guitar.
In my early years I listened to the pop stars of the day like The Beatles, Kinks and Small Faces.
My love for the 3 minute pop song continues but I have since developed an equal love for Folk, Blues and Jazz.
Whether it be Pop, Folk or Blues, I am drawn towards story songs, songs with a message, and when I perform them, I use a mix of flat-picking and fingerstyle.
My early influences include James Taylor, Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen, but these days I also like to listen to lesser known singer-songwriters like Steve Tilston, Richard Shindell, Charlie Dore, Chris Wood, Nerina Pallot and Bob Fox, all of whom I have seen locally in the past year or two.
My performances often include one or two of my own songs.
Our Open-mic nights run every week throughout the year.
The Ritz Acoustic Club is all about providing a stage area for anyone to come along and perform in front of a live audience.
There are 3 Sets, starting at 8:00pm.
First set will contain 4 sessions with up to 3 songs each.
Second set will contain 3 sessions with up to 3 songs each.
Third set will contain any remaining sessions with up to 3 songs each.
Please kindly aim to limit your session to approximately 15 minutes.
(Sessions may be booked on the night from 7.30pm, on a 'First come, First served' basis)
We recommend you arrive early to get a session.
Artists who have not performed at the club before will not be charged the £3 entry fee
Polite Advice - Other Stuff - T's & C's
The club welcomes both experienced performers and those new to performing in public.
The club is a music club and to that end we ask people to be considerate to the players when they are on stage,
however, there is a bar and it’s not a library; common sense should apply.
If you want to chat rather than listen, please move to the upper bar.
Musicians/Performers should note the following...
Electric solid bodied bass guitars are permitted (we have one available or bring your own).
Electric solid bodied lead / rhythm guitars are discouraged, we encourage the use of acoustic guitars with or without a plug-in facility.
In order to provide as many slots to artists as possible and to finish as close to 11:00pm as possible,
we ask that you are tuned up and ready to go when you go on stage, apart from minor tweaking of course.
We are unable to schedule performers who use backing tracks. It is a live music club.
