§ 40-2-151. Annual license fees for operating motor vehicles; optional one time fee for registration and license plate for certain trailers

(a) The annual fees for the licensing of the operation of vehicles shall be as follows for each vehicle registered:

(b) In lieu of the annual fee provided in paragraphs (6), (7) or (8) of subsection (a) of this Code section, the optional one-time fee for a permanent registration and license plate for:

(1) Any trailer used as or in connection with a motor vehicle, truck, or tractor used as a common or contract carrier for hire, a private carrier, or a motor carrier of property; or

(2) Any boat trailer, utility trailer, or noncommercial cattle and livestock trailer authorized to obtain a permanent registration and license plate under the provisions of Code Section 40-2-47 shall be $48.00.

HISTORICAL AND STATUTORY NOTES

Laws 2007, Act 346, § 14, provides:

“Sections 2, 3, 4, 5, and 13 through 15 of this Act shall become effective July 1, 2007. Sections 1, 6, 7, and 12 of this Act shall become effective January 1, 2008. Sections 8, 9, 10, and 11 of this Act shall become effective July 1, 2008.”

In 2007, the Code Commission, in subsec. (a), substituted “subsection” for “Code section” at the end of par. (11). See § 28-9-5.

Laws 2008, Act 727, § 9, provides:

“Sections 4 and 5 of this Act shall become effective January 1, 2009. Section 7 of this Act shall become effective July 1, 2009. The remaining sections of this Act shall become effective upon this Act's approval by the Governor or upon this Act becoming law without such approval.”

In 2008, the Code Commission, due to irreconcilable conflicts, treated the amendment of this section by Laws 2008, Act 471, § 40, as superseded by Laws 2008, Act 727, § 4. See Butts County v. Strahan, 107 S.E. 163, 151 Ga. 417 (1921).

Laws 2009, Act 101, § 4 provided:

“Section 3A of this Act shall become effective upon its approval by the Governor or upon its becoming law without such approval. The remaining sections of this Act shall become effective on January 1, 2010, and shall apply to registration and licensing of trailers on and after such date.”
