Naval-gazing - Obsessed with Boat Building

"Mary Constance" - my first love.

(note - this image can fail to load sometimes, especially on Apples - will sort it.......)

Launch day - Scamp can't be kept out of a boat - the oars are unfinished - see HERE for more on oars.

Anne Barry launched her beautiful Baby Bagger "Gertie" at the same time:

Anne built this over 3 years from recycled cedar taken from a PortaKabin type building being demolished at St John's Central College, Cork. (If you know of any similar buildings or indeed any decent timber in buildings being demolished that could be used for boatbuilding please let me know).

It is a 3/4 scale version of a New York Bay catboat or Bagger - was featured in Water Craft magazine issue 55 Jan/Feb 2006 - contact me if you want more info.

In the background is John Geary's Angling Charters boat (plug plug!). John Geary (Senior) teaches boatbuilding at St John's.

Ok - getting back to Mary Constance - Here are a few detail photos - no text or sequential building photos yet:

For no adaquately explained reason, here's a link to my blog that I'm not motivated to maintain but has some nice images: http://thepointcrosshaven.blogspot.com/

I built this boat from scratch. In October (OK November....) 2006 I intend to add in a complete description of how it was built from the 2 pages of plans through to the finished item above. There will be many many photos, not quite so much text, lots of asides, tips and links. Ideas on layout, comments and encouragement are welcome. email me (replace the _at_ by @) theoleary_at_gmail.com page the Second
