1C Beinn Dearg and Craig of Monievreckie

A traverse of Beinn Dearg and Craig of Monievreckie is possible if transport can be arranged. Start on the forest track at NN617047 and follow it past the transmitter complex on the summit ridge to Ben Dearg. Follow the fence steeply downhill in a westerly direction to the Beinn Liath ridge which is followed SW to its end. A deer fence has to be climbed at NN570033 to head NW across sparse woodland to cross the forest track and descend to the ford (another deer fence to cross) at NN567034. There is a rough track ascending the Mentieth Hills ridge at NN561033. (This whole valley area is to be avoided during the bracken season). Follow the Mentieth Ridge SW to Craig of Monievreckie, navigating the steep bealachs on the way with care. Continue generally SW to follow a stream at NN541017 which picks up an unmarked path at a gate at the forest edge. The path descends to the forest track at NN538013 which can be followed down to the large car park at NN542001.
