About Us

Steve MacKinnon, founder of the band, named it after the very real Kennebunk River, the river that flows between Kennebunk and Kennebunkport, pictured above.

Our band has some regular faces, but our musician friends all intermingle and play with multiple bands, so we are blessed with many players willing to sit in and jam when another buddy is booked!

The usual cast of faces regularly include husband and wife duo, Steve and Emily MacKinnon on vocals, acoustic guitars, and percussion.

Surfing in and out of our musical mix are:

on fiddle and banjo: Michael Conant (Pocket Full of Mumbles, Backwoods Road, Nevah Band, Dirt Driveway, Bald Hill Boys)

on dobro, mandolin, his Les Paul and if we ply him enough, his toe tapping accordion: Larry LeBlanc (Nevah Band, Arkansas Traveller),

on bass: Kevin Cooper (Montgomery Road) Kevin Ward (Never Been to Kingston, Never Been to Tennesee, Mystic Vibes, Docksquares & Pressure Points), the intrepid Steve Norris , or Tim Clough (L/A, Me jazz scene), with Dave "big ears" Engel and Duane Edwards (Primo Cubano) known to fill in. RIP to our dear Phil Sturgeous who played upright in the original group.

Pedal steel: Tim Howie (also banjo, guitar).

Lead guitar: original member Brian Martin, with the likes of John Edwards (Tunetown) , Mike Corletto, Ron Palmer (Preheat), Mark Dufoe and Vernon Northover have been known to sit in.

on keyboards: Nick Georges (various), original member Mark Gunter (Windmills, The Sensations)

on flute & sax: Mary Kennedy (Windstrum Trio, Rivertree Arts)

on drums: Chris Dow (various) (Jeffrey Glidden (various) original member Ron Breton (Windmills, Meantone, Docksquares) but Nancy Durham (various) and Nelson Bellerose (various) also fill in if they can. RIP dear Jay Rubero.

on congas: Lenny Hatch (Primo Cubano, various), Mark Seeley, Mark Boutet, original member Tommy Wiley.

Stephen MacKinnon is the booking agent, producer, band manager, audio engineer, stage manager, and road crew!

Emily MacKinnon is the web-presence manager using primarily this Google site, Gmail, and Facebook.

By day Stephen is a semi-retired homebuilder/contractor and Emily works as a local Instructional Support Network Coach for students with Gifts and Talents, using her Master of Science ('12) in Abilities and Disabilities Education. She recently earned a certificate of graduate study ('20) in Assistant Principal and is working on her Doctorate in Public Policy at the University of Southern Maine's Muskie Institute in Portland. They make time for this hobby they share together, enjoying both public and private celebrations and jamming with their wide circle of musical friends and in the local community. When not playing music, teaching, or crafting wood, they enjoy boating, camping, gardening, and spending time with nearby extended family! They are very proud of and miss an adult daughter who now lives abroad, teaching music at an international K-12 school.
