The Jessie Boden Lloyd Professorship in Immunology Research was established in the 1980’s by a generous gift from Calgary businesswoman Jessie Boden Lloyd. An accomplished musician, Ms. Lloyd ran the music focused Cinderella Kindergarten for more than thirty years in Eau Claire. Upon her retirement, she used the proceeds from the sale of the school building to establish the Professorship. Since then, the Professorship has led research and developments in the understanding of Immune System Development, Immunotherapy, Host-Pathogen (bacteria, fungi and viruses) Interactions, and Clinical Immunology. Additionally, the Professorship has been instrumental in supporting new and innovative learning opportunities for students studying Immunology in Calgary. Ms. Lloyd retired to Victoria and passed away in 2007.
The Jessie Boden Lloyd Professorship in Immunology Research has a mandate to:
(a) providing leadership in the development of immunology research in Southern Alberta;
(b) developing and maintaining a world-class program oriented towards immunology research;
(c) promoting collaborative research available in the University of Calgary Cumming School of Medicine;
(d) establishing effective education links with community groups that have an interest in immunology research
(e) attracting outstanding students, research associates and Faculty to the University.
