Some shots for the movie "Casper" was filmed in Rockport, Maine. 1. More specifically, the scene displaying the name of "Friendship", and when the Harvey's Ford LTD Country Squire drives through the picturesque mountain roads of New England in autumn.
Camden, Maine stood in for Friendship. More specifically, the footage showing the bird's eye view of the harbor was actually Camden Harbor as seen from Mount Battie in the Camden Hills to the north. The low peninsula off in the distance to the right is Owls Head, which is 12km south of Mount Battie. [Google Maps image HERE.]
However, most of "Casper" was filmed on the Universal Studios Entertainment lot -- Colonial Street, Colonial Mansion, Stage 12 (interior of Whipstaff Manor), and Stage 28. From the attorney Mr. Rugg's office to The Wandermere Hotel, and from Marshwood Junior High School to the karaoke bar. And, of course, Whipstaff Manor. Regarding the lighthouse scene -- quoting from the director of "Casper", Brad Silberling, "This is ... an actual 'plate', meaning the background image, which was shot up [in] Northern California. We sent our island crew out, north of San Rafael -- actually, not far from Point Reyes." But the original scene was filmed on Stage 12 at Universal. [Source: "Casper" DVD "Bonus Material."]
