The Butterfly Dragon is a term taken from the book The Butterfly Dragon I: Heroes Of Our Own which refers to an ancient philosophy and accompanying form of mixed martial arts that was created in ancient China as a means to protect innocence and virtue in the world. After forming its own host Temple in what would eventually become Guangzhou, China, it spread to other parts of East Asia, the Mediterranean, the Middle East and Europe where it mixed with similar ideologies remaining a great secret until some time during China's Song Dynasty.
It is rumoured that at that time an opposing force emerged to counterbalance the efforts of the Temple of the Butterfly Dragon. This opposition found unity amongst other Empires which used their conquest of other lands to hunt down and eradicate the followers of the Butterfly Dragon philosophy. It is during this time that two the philosophies' greatest protectors and purveyors known only as the Unnamed pair, a Woman and Man disappeared. It is assumed that they fell and were killed during one of the many sieges during the conquest against the Temple Of The Butterfly Dragon but there is little evidence to support this account. Since the time of their death it is believed that the philosophy itself dissolved though it is rumoured that the original Temple still exists until this day.
The philosophy of the Butterfly Dragon eventually found its way into a children's tale known as The Field, The Butterflies And The Dragon. The tale is handed down from generation to generation by parents to their children who often would hear it as a bed time story. Some of these children experience a profound connection with the tale and grow up to spend their life pursuing the hidden mysteries it holds and the path it entails.
