Don Shepherd, 1974-1987
From 1974 until April of 1988, Don Shepherd, who was trained as an architect, was the Blenko Company designer.
Mr. Shepherd died in February of 2002. The Blenko Project survey lists Mr. Shepherd as the "most favorite designer" among the employees. Blenko employees who worked with Shepherd describe him as a mentor, a teacher, and a friend. He encouraged the Blenko craftsmen to experiment with their glass making, to travel and to exhibit their work, and to consider themselves "craftsmen." Mr. Shepherd later John Nickerson traveled with the Blenko craftsmen to teach and demonstrate at the art departments of institutions of higher education.
Don Shepherd's Blenko designs can be found on the numerous Blenko-inspired sites.
