It is with much sadness that I have to share that my dear friend and colleague, Brian McBurnie, died peacefully early Tuesday morning, the 7th October 2025, after a long illness.

Seventeen years ago, Brian and I began this project to research Barnwood’s history.

Brian was born in Barnwood and spent most of his life living in the parish. His memories contributed greatly to our work, and, as a retired teacher, Brian brought both research skills and storytelling ability to our project. He uncovered tales that might otherwise have been lost, and had the ability to succinctly and engagingly tell these stories.

Over the years, we shared the stories we uncovered, giving more than eighty talks and writing four books. A legacy he was proud to leave behind.
