THE TASTING
This most and diverse interesting tasting consisted of two white Bordeaux only newly
developed by these chateaux:A 2017 white Cos d'Estournel and a 2017 white Smith Haut Lafitte.
were, by consensus, generally fresh, ready to drink = clean. distinctive wines.
The 2013 Merus was its usual exotic self. The 2016 Pedestal impressed us as a very old world style
well-made, soft Merlot wine that will develop further over the next decade.
The 2012 Quisida Creek Cabernet Savignon showed balance, definition and
a rich fruit profile. The 1990 Vega Sicilia Unico was an elegant fully mature very old world wine,
probably just past peak but still drinking wonderfully
The 2000 Leoville Barton was certainly one of the top wines of the tasting
with multiple layers of excellent definition significant complexity in a long way to go.
The mini vertical testing of Château Lynch Bages seemed to be less than hoped for.
The 1989 and 1985 in particular did not seem to have the depth, dimension, range, and complexity that
this bottle has exhibited as recently as the past 1 to 2 years. Even the newer vintages of 1995 and
2005 seemed not as complex and balanced as previously. 2014 was, as expected -
very youthful, but perhaps better than expected.
The 2020 Turley Cinsaut was something completely different in our tasting history
