Aliparambu Sivarama Poduval, (1925–2006)- noted exponent of Sopana Sangeetham, Thayambaka and Edakka, died of cardiac disease at Cherpulassery in Palakkad district at the age of 82. The last rites were held at his house near Cherpulassery at 7 p.m. on 5th September, 2006 with State honours. Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran represented the State Government at the funeral. Kerala Kalamandalam and other cultural organisations paid their last respects to the departed artiste.
During the Condolence meeting Minister of Revenue Mr.K.P.Rajendran, announced and assured that State government will organize and erect a Memorial Museum within the premises of Ayyappan Kavu Temple, Cherpulassery, to give respect to the Vadya Kulapathy Late. K.P.Sivarama Poduval. Mr. P.K.Sudhakaran, Member of District Secretariate CPI(M), Palakkad and . Mrs. K.S.Saleekha, M.L.A., were attended the meeting.
PROFILE:
Sri.K.P. Sivarama Poduval was born on the 23rd August, 1925 at Aliparambu, Malappuram district, Kerala in a Temple artists family. His father Late Sri. Kuttan Poduval , Vellinezhy Kavil Poduvattil was a famous Kathakali Musician and His Mother Late Smt. Parukutty Poduvalsyar of Kunath Poduvattil, near the favour Ayyappan Temple at Cherplachery in Palakkad Dist. His Guru was Late K.P.Kutta Poduval, who was an All rounder in all Temple Vadya instruments. At the age of five, Siva Rama Poduval commenced his studis in Chenda, Idakka, and Sopana Sangeetham, under his guru. At the age of ten, his Thayambaka arangettam done and subsequently he studied in Panchavadyam under the then Veteran Kattakampal Krishnan Kutty Marar. Higher training got in Thayambaka under Mela Chakravarthy Thiruvegappura Rama Poduval and got knowledge in “PANI” – most complicated and most important, ritualistic temple vadya under Rama Poduval. One of the craziest art viz. “Jalatharanga Thayambaka“also learned by him. His younger brother K.P. Krishna Poduval and himself were performed `Jalatharanga Thayambaka' and `Thayambaka' on `Ona Villu'. The duo was known as Cherpulassery brothers and they also performed `Double Thayambaka.' Mr. K.P.Krishna Poduval got fame on his efforts in Temple instruments internationally also. A long period of efforts rendered by him towards reading temple instruments in and above State, National and International venues.
HISTORY:
Aliparamba Sivarama Poduval, famous Chenda and Sopanam player belongs to Aliparmaba. Sivarama Poduval is survived by his wife, Mrs, Kizheke Poduvattil Kunjilakshmi Poduvalsiar, a daughter and two sons. All the three children Mr.K.P.Venugopal, Mr.K.P.Krishnadas and Mrs.K.P.Sathi Devi , are rendering their services to Lord Ayyappa last forty years.

Cherpulassery or Cherplassery/Cherpalchery(ചെര്പ്ലശ്ശേരി Malayalam) is a small town in Palakkad district of Kerala state, south India. typically bustles with business and hotels, but the place is better known for its vintage temples (Ayyappan Kavu, Puthanalkkal Bhagavathy shrine and the Shiva Kshetram) and as the home of several Kathakali and traditional Kerala percussionists with expertise in playing instruments like the chenda, maddalam and the edakka. Cherpulassery has made seminal contributions to the traditional chenda percussion concert called Thayambaka through its late brothers -- Alipparambu Kesava Poduval (Viswabharathi Santhi Niketan University, Kolkatta), K. P. Krishna Poduval and K P Sivarama Poduval. The leading artistes among the younger generation from Cherpulachery include Cherpulachery Haridasan (Timila), Krishnakumar Poduval (Chenda) and his young disciples Rajesh, Jayan and Vijayan (Thayambaka). Also promising are Cherpulassery Jayesh, Vijesh, Sreeju, Sreenath, Sudheer Kumar and Hariharakrishnan.

8. At the time of Shastyabdhapoorthy ceremony he honored with Gold medal and “Kshetra Vadya Kalaratnam”during 1984.
9. He honored with Kerala Kalamandalam Award in 2003, Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Akademy Award for Thayambaka in 1989-90,
10. He honroed with Guruvayoorappan Award for the best Thayambaka artiste in 1990.
11. On his saptati celebration won a Gold medal by Sapthati Celebration Committee. On the same year his Bio_Data Album was opened by Chowallur Unni. He received “Guruvayoorappan Puraskaram” from then Hon. Minister Sri. K. Karunakaran during 1994.
12. Received “Pushkara da (Puraskaram)” from France during his visit in foreign countries against his performances on different Temple instruments during 1997.
13. On the occasion of “Keli Mahotsavam” at Mumbai the Malayalee Samajam honorued him with Veera Sringala during 1999.
14. 26th August, 2000 he got the “Melacharya Puraskaram” from Kathakali Melacharya smaraka trust.
15. Cherplachery Ayyappankavu Welfare Committee honored him with “Keerthy Mudra” and he got the Kathakali Melacharya Trust Award for Thayambaka during 2000.
16. During 2001 he named as “Mela Kalanidhi” by Sri Peruvanam Kuttan Marar Sweekarana Samithi.
17. During 2002 Kalamandalam award for best Thayambaka performer received by him.
18. 25th May, 2003 he got the Kalacharya vadya retnam award for Kottipadi seva from Akhila Kerala Marar Kshema sabha , Trichur.
19. During 2003 he got the Pu.Ku.Sa.Sangam Momentom for Thayambaka.
20. 8th December, 2003 he got the Pallavoor Smaraka Vadhyakulapathy samathi award as Panchavadya Edakka vadanan (Akhila Kerala Puraskara Chakravarthy Pattarathu Sankaramarar Sammana Phalakam).
21. During 2003 He got the “Thayambaka Hamsam” award from Trichur Mahadeva Kshetra Bhaktha Jana Sanghatana.
22. K.P.Sivarama Poduval has been selected for the year 2005 Pallavur Appu Marar Award of the State Government. The award comprises a citation, statuette and purse of Rs.1 lakh. Against his excellent contribution towards Thayambaka, Melam, Sopana Sangeethacharyan.
