This is an annual event which is held in different location in South Western Montana area around the end of March. It is a hunter style event using pre 1900 single shot or lever action rifles loaded with black powder or black powder substitute. The course of fire generally consists of twelve life size animal targets with steel scoring plates in the kill zone for each animal. Some fun targets are included which are general steel plate targets such as silhouette targets ( ram, chicken, etc). The target distances are from 75 to over 500 yards. As this is a hunter style course no sighting rounds, or range finders are allowed to be used on the course. The course of fire is five shots on each target with scoring being a point value of five for a first hit and decreasing with each successive shot. Spotting by squad members is permitted for each shooter. It takes about six hours to complete the course.
The event was started to provide something different for single shot enthusiasts.
