Saturday - November 4, 2023 @ Rockledge High School 9:00 am - 6:00 pm (each solo/ensemble has assigned times - you will not be there all day)
2023 Schedule -
Important Things to Remember:
Accompanist Information
All accompaniment fees include at least 2 rehearsals and 1 performance and must be paid prior to your S&E performance on Nov. 4)
What to Wear:
Gentlemen - Button-up shirt, Tie, Slacks, and nice shoes.
Ladies - Similar in dress-up level to guys. (Modesty is the Best Policy)
For all performers - No jeans, shorts, sneakers, T-shirts or flip-flops - All students must be in compliance with the school dress code.
*Practice performing in the outfit you are choosing to wear so you know how it will feel on the day of the event.
At your Performance
You MUST have 2 original copies of your piece. If you are sharing music/books with another student please coordinate with each other to ensure that all know where the music will be and when.
Make sure that there is a number on top of EVERY measure on your music, the judge's music and your accompanist's music (if applicable). If this is not done, you will be asked to leave the performance and be disqualified. If you are disqualified, your grade will be adjusted accordingly.
What to plan for on the day of the event:
Plan on arriving at Rockledge HS at least 30 minutes before your scheduled performance time
Locate your room. Maps will be posted throughout the school.
Warm-Up in the Cafeteria.
Be waiting outside your room 5 minutes before your scheduled performance time
What to do during your performance:
When you enter the room, put your music on the stand and check your tuning. (you should have already tuned BEFORE you have gotten in the room, this is just a double check)
Soloists tune your strings with your accompanist - Ensemble members tune your strings with each other - Please make sure that you have a tuner on your stand! Make sure to practice this BEFORE you get to S&E!
The judge may still be writing comments for the performer before you. While you are waiting, open the music book to the page that your piece is on, and place it on the judge's table. Go back to your stand and wait patiently for the judge to let you know that they are ready. During this time you may quietly shadow bow through your piece, but please do not play your instrument. When they are ready they will let you know.
Always address the judges using the terms "Yes, Ma'am - No Ma'am & Yes Sir - No Sir".
Introduce yourself and the piece using the script that we will go over in class. (Here it is so you can practice...)
Soloists Script:
Hi, My name is _____________ from Titusville High School.
I will be playing ________________ by ________________.
Ensemble Script:
Hi, My name is __________________ from Titusville High School.
(only introduce yourself, you do not need to introduce all of the members of your ensemble.)
We will be playing ________________________ by ________________________.
If there is applause at the end of your performance... bow. Remember, "These are my Toes"
When you are done playing listen respectfully to what the judge has to say. If they ask you to play something again, do so, and try your best to make the changes that they are asking you to make. (often times your ability to make the change they are asking for will "bump up" your rating.)
When they are done giving you comments, Thank them for listening to you.
Collect your originals from your stand and the judge, and quietly leave the room. (please, discuss this with your families as well. The judge is still working between performances and we need to be very respectful of this process. You can "decompress" when you get to the car)
Go back to the Cafeteria to pack up
At this point, you are done, and you have a choice:
You can either leave Rockledge and go about your day, or you can hang around for a little and wait for your rating to be posted. All ratings will be accessible via a QR code that will be posted around Rockledge. You will need to know your entry number, which is the 6-digit number located on the schedule next to your event.
You are NOT required to wait. I will collect the judge's sheets at the end of the day, and pass them out to you on Monday 11/6. However, I do encourage you to stay and listen to some of the other members of the TSO.
