I can only recommend young women to take up a technical career. There are interesting tasks, good career prospects and good salaries here. I can't remember ever having been disadvantaged because of my gender, but of course it makes sense to specifically promote women as long as they are the minority in these professions. However, things are quite different in the academic field. The Texas state spends far too little money here, so that even very good performance and commitment will not get you any further.
