The Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit Bypassing Aerial Tramway (TCAT BAT), a new transportation investment, is designed to improve the environmental, economic, and social sustainability of the Ithaca, New York area and its constituents. The construction of the tramway aims to provide social and economic growth, and to minimize local transportation's impacts on the surrounding environment. An electric motor, sourced with a moderately low greenhouse gas supplier in NYSEG, will reduce the amount of pollution relative to that of what the other forms of transportation emit. A construction cost that meets budgetary requirements and a low riding fee will have positive overall economic effects. Socially the tramway intends to link the Ithaca community together and provide a safe and friendly service. With efficient means of operation and a picturesque view, the BAT is a project that will benefit the community for years to come.
