Event List

There are a total of 77 events at a dual meet. The meet begins with the medley relays for the 8 and unders and ends with the free relays. In most events we swim the younger children first and they only swim a 25 yard/meter race. Older children swim 50s, IMs, and 100s.

THE BULLPEN

The bullpen is where we organize the swimmers for their races and assign their lanes. The home team will call children to the bullpen by event number on a loud speaker OR they will use a flip number chart to alert swimmers that they are to come to the staging area. The bullpen is usually a tented area with numbered benches or chairs where the children line up before they walk to the starting blocks for their races.

If this is your child’s first meet it is a good idea to walk them over to the bullpen (with their goggles) and help them find the people who are seating the children in the appropriate line-ups. One of our coaches will help the young children prepare for their races in the bullpen. There are always Stingray parent helpers in the bullpen who will help too!

The bullpen is a hectic spot, so we ask that parents support their children by getting them there on time, but not interfering with bullpen operations. Once your child has reached the bullpen it is important for you to return to the pool deck to offer your support during their swim. Please do not try to walk your child to the blocks or speak to your child while they are in line unless it is an emergency. It is very easy for a swimmer to lose their concentration during this time -- and often parents can easily distract them to the point where they lose their space in line and therefore, do not know what heat they are in. Only coaches and timers should be on the deck with the swimmers. If you have a concern about bullpen procedures during a meet, please contact the Stingray Parent President and she will discuss the concern with the appropriate person from the other team.
