WS 1 | Sustainable Practices in Environmental Geotechnics
Organization TC215 | Environmental Geotechnics
Room Eocene (Meo Arena) | Seating capacity 50 | Date 25 August 2024 / 14:30 - 18:30
Workshop fees Delegates ECSMGE: EUR 65/35(students) Non-delegates: EUR 150
Introduction
The workshop will focus on sustainable geo-environmental practices aimed at designing environmentally compatible, economically viable and socially equitable structures, products and systems that meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The main theme of the workshop will be centred around identifying laboratory and field-testing methods, analytical and numerical modelling approaches, and construction and field work management methods which are capable of promoting the minimization of materials and energy consumption, the preservation of natural resources, the minimization of waste generation and the maximization of future reuse options for polluted sites. Moreover, the workshop will explore the need for geo-structures that are resilient with respect to extreme events, such as earthquakes, storms, floods, permafrost melting, and desertification, to protect the environment from the consequences of catastrophic failures in the face of global climate change.
