Dr. Nastassja Lewinski is an Associate Professor in Chemical and Life Science Engineering at VCU. She received her B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering and her Ph.D. in Bioengineering from Rice University in Houston, TX. She became a member of Tau Beta Pi (TBP) as an undergraduate student at Rice and fondly remembers attending several student events held by the Bent located outside of Abercrombie. At VCU, Dr. Lewinski teaches thermodynamics of phase equilibria and nanotechnology environmental health and safety, at the undergraduate and graduate levels respectively. Her research aims to support the responsible design of engineered nanoparticles by investigating the human health effects due to exposure. Her group uses in vitro models and informatics tools, which facilitate the determination of in vitro - in vivo correlations and identification of optimal nanoparticle synthesis routes.
Andy Vo graduated from VCU College of Engineering with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering in 2018. Prior to that, he had served as the President of TBP VA-E for 2 years. He is currently in his first graduate year in the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP, MD/PhD) at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. His current research deals with inducing vascularization of skeletal muscles for muscle graft in cases of volumetric muscle loss. Andy hopes to pursue a career in transplant medicine and tissue engineering research, helping patients with organ failure by creating viable grafts. He has returned to become involved with TBP as an alumnus advisor for the VA-E Chapter and as a member of the national Advisors Committee.
